LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Umtentweni Beach, 2 kms away by road, is a good beach with paddling pool, rock protected easy swimming area, and a general swimming area guarded by lifeguards and there are shark nets.
There are also a number of beaches close by where dogs are allowed on the beach and are also popular with sea fishermen.

Port Shepstone

Port Shepstone, known as the business centre of the Lower South Coast, is a busy seaside town with all the popular stores such as Pick n’ Pay, Spar, OK and Shopright.  The Lighthouse, a major land mark, is also home to the Publicity Tourist Information Centre for the area.

The Lower South Coast

The Lower South Coast caters for practically everything one could ask for.  Horse riding on the beach, or at Oribi Gorge.  Climbing , abseiling, cable sliding, bridge swinging, white water rafting, swimming, surfing, canoeing, game fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, whale & dolphin watching.
There is a SterKinekor Cinema at the Shelly Centre.
The Wild Coast Casino offers many entertainments apart from the gaming tables and one arm bandits there are spectacular shows, Strikers 10 pin Bowling, Ocean Trails –Equestrian Centre, Wild Coast Waterworld.
There is golf, tennis, squash and bowls at the Port Shepstone Country Club situated alongside the Umzimkulu river. (there are 10 golf courses within easy driving distance)
Visit the Butterfly farm(Ramsgate), Snake Park (Pure Venom), Riverbend Crocodile Farm(Southbroom) or the Sonny Evans Small Craft Harbour (Shelly Beach) – this is the largest of its kind south of Durban and is home to the National Sea Rescue Institute and the Shelly Beach Boat Club.
Or you may like to visit the Port Shepstone Museum and the Art Museum in Margate.
The Space Centre, Southbroom, is an interesting & unique with an astronomical museum and observatory. Here one can view the constellations of the southern skies in the rustic local surroundings.
At Beaver Creak Coffee Farm, Port Edward, you can experience the hospitality and excellent coffee offered in the picturesque surrounding of Beaver Creek.  Tours are available showing the intensive process of picking, pulping, fermenting, washing, drying and roasting of beans.

Nature Reserves and Trails

Umtamvuna Nature Reserve
Here precipitous gorges wind and twist their way through the Natal Group Sandstone to the sea. Tributary streams fed from high ground that supports relics of grassland representing the sole remaining area in southern Africa of Accocks Pondoland Coastal Plateau Sour Veldt. These streams run down from all points in the area into a varied habitat with a diversity of plant species almost unmatched in South Africa. Numerous walks and trails are available from ranging from short half-hour trails to full day 8 hour walks.
Mpenjati Coastal Reserve
This area of pristine coastal beach and river estuary is about 15km from the resort and offers comfortable but beautiful walk along a section of unspoiled coastline
The Oribi George
This renowned natural area 30 minutes drive from the Umtentweni and boasts some of the most dramatic and striking scenery in South Africa. The area is famous for its breathtaking views and features. Both the fauna and flora in the area add to the shear natural beauty of the gorge and surroundings. Hiking, walking and mountain bike trails are available.
There are nine Nature Reserves along the Lower South Coast including the spectacular Oribi Gorge (20kms distance) 24km long gorge with its 330m high sandstone cliffs which make for stunning landscapes and are a backdrop for a number of extreme sports. There are great hiking and walking trails with a number of picnic sites. A must see for the nature lover.
Of huge environmental importance is also the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve (Port Edward) with its walking & mountain bike trails along the Umtamvuna River gorge.  There are many rare and endemic trees and plant species to be seen in a variety of habitats.
